This "tree" depicts a lemming (the wooden base), a mink (the small animal climbing up the side of the walrus tusk) and a bird. Mr. Hendrickson, a well-known ivory and wood carver and respected elder from Mekoryuk was attending a Native art workshop at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1970 when he made this piece.
